Anadarko cutting 58 jobs in East Texas

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. may shed more than 50 jobs and shut down three offices in East Texas if it sells off its Carthage oil field for $1 billion by the end of the year.

The Woodlands-based oil explorer plans to cut 58 jobs in East Texas offices in Carthage (53), Henderson (3) and Oakhill (2), according to a weekly report by state regulators released Monday.

Those layoffs are slated to take place in January unless the sale falls through, and some employees may be offered another job somewhere else in the company, Anadarko said.

The Carthage field sale is part of its $4 billion in divestitures this year, including sales of other properties in Texas and Louisiana.
