Train car derails while headed to NJ oil refinery

PAULSBORO, N.J. (AP) — A single train car has derailed in the southern New Jersey community where a derailment last year caused the leak of a potentially dangerous chemical.

Conrail spokesman John Enright says an empty car headed to an oil refinery in Paulsboro derailed, blocking Billingsport Road, early Monday afternoon.

Analysts: Rail will be a lasting competitor against pipelines

Enright says the refinery and a contractor were getting the car off the road.

On Nov. 30, a train derailed at a bridge about a half-mile away, leaking vinyl chloride into the air. Some areas were evacuated for several days.
