Drug problems hindering offshore recruiters

It’s no secret that a drilling boom has created a staffing crunch in the energy industry, but drug use is also hindering companies from hiring qualified workers.

According to KUHF, Hercules Offshore Chief Executive Officer John Rynd said the drug problem has also factored in to the industry’s ability to hire skilled workers.

“We have about a 30 percent attrition just alone on the drugs, not passing the drug test,” he told the radio station. “We cannot afford to allow anybody under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs to board one of our vessels.”

Offshore companies have zero tolerance policy on drug and alcohol use while on duty because of the potential safety concerns associated with both.
