Port Arthur carbon capture project gets DOE funds

The Department of Energy has granted funds for Air Products Co. to begin studying the design of a planned CO2 capture system at a Port Arther, Texas refinery.
The funds are somewhat modest, just over $900,000, but it could set the stage for phase two, where the project purfies the CO2 for delivery via pipeline for enhanced oil recovery in Texas. The company doesn’t say which pipeline, but Denbury Resources has big plans for a CO2 pipeline that will pass by a number of Texas refineries on its way to the Houston area.
The funds come from the money set aside by the DOE for carbon capture related projects from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
