Chevron pulling out of service station biz in East

Chevron will take its name off over 1,100 gas stations — accounting for 8 percent of the total U.S. sales volume — in 12 Eastern states and Washington, D.C.

“We expect all of the stations to continue operating under other brands and we have a program in place to assist retailers with their transition,” the release read. “We expected to complete the planned market exits by mid-year 2010.

Chevron will still have more than 5,000 Chevron and Texaco branded stations in the Eastern U.S. and we keep growing retail presence in other parts of the U.S., the company said.
