U.S. rig count up for fifth week

U.S. drilling activity was up for the fifth consecutive week, adding 12 rigs to 1,113 but still well below the 1,941 rigs reported during the same week a year ago, according to Baker Hughes.
Onshore added 13 rigs to 1,064. Inland waters activity was unchanged with 13 rigs working. U.S. offshore declined by 1 rig to 34 in the Gulf of Mexico and a total of 36 rigs in U.S. waters.
Of those rigs, 726 were drilling for natural gas (down 2 from the previous week) and 375 were drilling for oil (down by 14). There were 12 rigs unclassified.
Horizontal drilling jumped by 19 rigs to 531. Directional drilling dropped 5 to 189.
