Mega energy prof Chu returns to UH

My colleague Jeannie Kever reports that the University of Houston is getting back one of its better known physicists, Paul Chu, after his eight year stint as president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology:

Chu is returning with a $2.8 million grant from the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research to further his search for new superconducting materials, which can conduct electricity without energy loss. The military is interested in the research for weapons development, but he said it also will have civilian applications, including transmitting renewable energy.
