Federal gasline coordinator asked to step down

Drue Pearce, the federal government’s coordinator for the Alaskan natural gas pipeline project, said she’s stepping down at the request of the president. The text of her letter, according to an e-mail release:

Dear Mr. President:
In accordance with your request, I hereby tender my resignation as Federal Coordinator for Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Projects effective January 3, 2010.
It is a great honor to have been chosen and confirmed to establish a new federal agency charged with a mission essential to the nation’s energy and economic security.
As Federal Coordinator, it has been my pleasure to exercise this new authority to coordinate federal efforts and deliver reliable, comprehensive and accurate information to advance the project.
It has been a privilege to serve my country.
