Nearly 30% of Gulf oil shut-in due to Ida

About 29.6 percent of the Gulf of Mexico’s oil production and 27.5 percent of the natural gas production has been shut-in due to Tropical Storm Ida, according to the Minerals Management Service.
The Gulf of Mexico accounts for about 25 percent of U.S. oil production and about 15 percent of natural gas output, according to the Department of Energy.
As of March the Gulf produces about 1.3 million barrels of oil per day and 7.0 billion cubic feet of gas per day.
Personnel have been evacuated from a total of 126 production platforms of the 694 manned platforms in the Gulf, or 18.1 percent of the facilities. Personnel from 66 drilling rigs, or 12.1 percent of the facilities, have been evacuated.
