CERAWeek: Texas at Forefront of Power Innovation

John Young, CEO of Dallas-based Energy Future Holdings, said the Lone Star State is leading the way in transorming the nation’s power infrastructure.
“Here in Texas, the regulatory process has led to some ahead-of-the-game processes and policies,” said Young, whose privately held firm is the parent company of electric retailer TXU Energy, power producer Luminant and power distribution Oncor.
He points to the state’s position as the largest wind producer in the U.S. and its approved $5 billion investment in expanding the electric transmission network to accommodate wind, solar and other renewables.
Given its openness to innovation, Texas may also be an ideal place to test widespread usage of plug-in hybrid vehicles, he said.
