Expect estimated electric bills for September

Electric customers in the CenterPoint Energy service area will most likely see September power bills based on estimates of past usage, but with adjustments.
Most of CenterPoint’s meter reading staff has been temporarily assigned to other responsibilities post-storm in order to help restoration efforts, said spokeswoman Alicia Dixon.
At a hearing before the Public Utility Commission in Austin this morning a CenterPoint official said the estimates will be adjusted based on how long power has been out in certain neighborhoods in an effort to better reflect actual usage. So that means customers in Galveston are unlikely to get a bill equal to the full usage for a typical September since essentially all of the island’s power meters were underwater.
When actual meter reads are finally made–which could be more than a couple months from now–the correct usage totals should be reached.
