Commission to consider post-Ike electric bill relief

A number of electric retailers are voluntarily offering payment extensions on customers bills, suspending shut-offs for non-payment and waiving late payment fees, but state officials may force more companies the take such measures.
The Public Utility Commission is expected to propose relief measures for electric customers in areas affected by the storm, such as waivers of new customer deposits and deferred payment plans, PUC spokesman Terry Hadley said today. Those measures could be added to the agenda of the PUC’s Wednesday meeting on an emergency basis.
