OTC: Teach the children well

The problem in the West is quantity, the problem in the East is quality, said Abe Palaz, director of educational and R&D Partnership at Halliburton.
He was talking about the engineering talent pool for the oil and gas industry and the relative issues facing the Western and Eastern hemispheres.
The East will take time to develop, but in the West there is much more the industry can and should be doing to raise the next generation of scientists and engineers.
And the education must begin early, he told a luncheon crowd of industry professionals at OTC.
“When we don’t inform our children about petroleum facts,” he said, “someone else is going to do the job for us.”
