V&E's Bilger to go to Lazard

A top energy lawyer with Vinson & Elkins is leaving the firm to head Lazard’s global energy group.
Bruce Bilger, who is highly regarded in the energy field, will continue in his role as head of Houston-based V&E’s 400-plus-attorney energy practice until the end of the year. At that time he will take on the role of chairman of M&A firm Lazard’s Global Energy practice and co-head of its Southwest Investment Banking region.
Bilger led a team at V&E that handled more than 2,000 cases with a collective value of more than $187 billion in 2006, according to the companies.
We did a Q&A with Bilger a number of years ago and have been regularly surprised at the major deals he’s been attached to. This includes the $45 billion acquisition of Dallas-based TXU by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, TPG and other investors, as well as Duke Energy’s $8 billion acquisition of Canada’s Westcoast Energy and Enterprise Products Partners’ $13 billion merger with El Paso’s GulfTerra business.
