Profit soared for pipeline giant Kinder Morgan Energy Partners in the second quarter of the year, with recent acquisitions helping it multiply its net income more than seven times from the same period a year ago.
Houston is home to the country’s two biggest pipeline operators, Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and Enterprise Products Partners, and the two companies have embraced divergent strategies in delivering returns for investors.
The acquisition price tag is a 23.5 percent premium to Copano’s closing price Tuesday. Copano shares jumped $4.96, or almost 15 percent, to $38.09 in late morning.
