Rig snapshot: Permian Basin still trumps Eagle Ford

There are 821 drilling rigs in Texas, 47 percent of U.S. rigs and 24 percent of all drilling rigs worldwide, according to the latest Baker Hughes Rig Count.

Most of the  Texas rigs are working in one of five major fields.

The Permian Basin in West Texas has 380 rigs, the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas has 226 rigs, the Granite Wash in the Panhandle has 40 rigs, the Barnett Shale in North Texas has 34 rigs and the Haynesville Shale in East Texas has 23 rigs.
