Developers broke ground Monday on what will be a 30-story office tower in Houston’s Uptown neighborhood. The property will house employees of BHP Billiton Petroleum when it’s completed in 2016.
The 600,000-square-foot building at 1500 Post Oak Blvd. is being developed by Transwestern on nearly three acres in the Four Oaks Place office complex. Financial services firm TIAA-CREF owns the site. The companies said the tower will be highly energy efficient with a green roof, floor-to-ceiling glass and an under floor air distribution system.
The building will go up next to BHP Billiton Pretroleum’s current headquarters at 1360 Post Oak Blvd., also in Four Oaks. BHP occupies all of the that building, along with some additional space in Four Oaks. The company said 2,000 workers will occupy the two buildings, some relocating from downtown and Tulsa.
Pickard Chilton Associates of New Haven, Conn., designed the tower. Kendall Heaton Associates of Houston is the local design partner. BHP announced the project earlier this year.
The renderings were provided by Pickard Chilton and Payne Rowlett.
