Officials: 5 workers burned in oil field explosion

ALEXANDER, N.D. — The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Department says five men have been injured in an oilfield explosion near Alexander.

The Forum reports that the workers were believed to be removing a cover on an oil fuel tank just before 9 a.m. Tuesday when a fire was ignited by an electric drill.

The sheriff’s office identified the burn victims as 54-year-old Mike Fowler, 20-year-old Frank Laverty, 27-year-old Daniel Smith, 22-year-old Stervon Joseph-Jenoir and 54-year-old Roger Kansa.

The sheriff’s office says all are employed by Trustlan Oilfield Services in New Town. Fowler was airlifted to a medical facility but the release did not say which one.

The investigation has been turned over to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
