Pipeline leaks gasoline on Montana’s Crow Reservation

BILLINGS, Mont. — Officials say an 8-inch underground gasoline pipeline leaked on the Crow Reservation in southeastern Montana.

Phillips 66 Co. is investigating the cause of Tuesday’s leak near Lodge Grass. Tribal and federal officials also are investigating.

The Billings Gazette reported the volume of gasoline spilled has not been determined.

Phillips 66 spokesman Dennis Nuss says the pipeline was shut down as soon as the leak was discovered. He says no health impacts to the community are expected.

The pipeline transports finished petroleum products such as gasoline and diesel from a Billings refinery to Wyoming, Utah and Colorado.

Patricia Klinger of the Transportation Department’s Pipeline Safety Administration says the investigation could take days or months.

Officials from the Environmental Protection Administration and the Crow Tribe area also on the site.
