Siemens’ Cinco de Mayo bash brings out record number

When Siemens held its first Cinco de Mayo themed reception in 2010, a mere 175 people attended.

On Thursday, the annual event brought out more than 600 people to the Verizon Wireless Club at Reliant Stadium. They dined on a lavish Mexican fare (complete with crabmeat tamales), sipped margaritas and enjoyed the music of the Yelba salsa band accompanied by professional Latin dancers.

“It’s the party of all parties,” said Steve Ward, Siemens vice president of Large Drives Industrial Applications in the UK. “Everyone wants to be here. Initially when we started this three years ago, we needed a theme. Everyone loves it. Just make sure you have a ride home.”

While party goers sampled Tequila at a tasting booth, cigar enthusiasts flocked to a table where Derrick Frankie of the Austin-based Bobalu Cigars rolled special handmade Siemens cigars.
