The importance of tea cakes and other sweets

Many visitors to the Scottish pavilion at the Offshore Technology Conference don’t just come looking for new products, sales deals or employment opportunities. They’re coming for tea cakes. And the country-sponsored booth doesn’t disappoint.

The booth is giving out “Milk Chocolate Mallow” by Tunnock which — sources say — aren’t that easy to find in the United States.

“It’s a big thing for Scots living here,” said David Rennie, director of oil and gas thermal generation for Scottish Enterprise in Aberdeen. The government agency is helping OTC visitors get work visas to work in Scotland.

“People come and ask for a tea cake.”
