Olympian Jackie Joyner Kersee inspires crowd at OTC reception

More than 800 turned out for the BP UK Energy Excellence reception at the Hilton Post Oak on Monday, ending the first day of the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston. The event featured a brief appearance by Olympian Jackie Joyner Kersee. The retired track and field athlete commended BP on its support of Olympic athletes.

“As an athlete and a teammate, I know it takes a team to be successful,” she said. “Each and every one of you will mingle, negotiate and try to make deals. … It takes all of us to make this a success.”

Also offering remarks were Andrew Millar, British Consul General;  Danny Lopez, Director General for UK Trade & Investment USA; and John Minge, president and chairman of BP America.

Among the attendees was Damian Bates, editor of the industry Press & Journal newspaper in Aberdeen, Scotland.  “It’s so important to be here (at the OTC) to understand the industry. You all are the best at this. That’s why we are here.”
