Halliburton says missing radioactive rod found in Texas

Halliburton Co., a major oil field services provider, said a radioactive rod that was first reported missing on Sept. 11 has been found on a road in Reeves County, Texas.

More details on the recovery of the device will be released as they’re confirmed, Tara Mullee, a spokeswoman for the Houston-based company, said in an e-mail Friday. Oilfield-service companies use the radioactive devices in wells to help identify places where hydrocarbons may exist.

Texas police and members of the National Guard were dispatched to help find the unit after it went missing between Pecos and Odessa, Texas.
