The Sierra Club released a new video touting Canada’s oil sands as “the dirtiest oil on Earth,” part of its “Beyond Oil” campaign.
Without naming TransCanada’s disputed Keystone XL pipeline, the group takes aim at plans to build and expand pipelines to carry Canada’s crude to the Gulf Coast.
They snagged Canadian actor Joshua Jackson, of 90’s teen drama Dawson’s Creek, to voice arguments that environmentalists have been lobbing against the pipeline proposals, including concerns that the crude would be exported rather than supply U.S. needs.
“The truth is, these proposed pipelines won’t bring oil to America. They’d bring oil through America,” Joshua says. “Americans take on all the risks, while oil companies collect all the rewards.”
