Maritime worker wins $2.8 million verdict

A well tester who fell off a vessel ladder has won a $2.8 million jury verdict against Broussard, La.-based Axxis Drilling.

Houston trial law firm Arnold & Itkin said Friday that its client, Jude Lewis, won the judgment against Axxis, which owned the Axxis Justice inland drilling barge.

On Nov. 19, 2009, Lewis was working on the barge in Barataria Bay, La. when he fell while trying to cross a ladder set up between the Axxis Justice and another vessel.

Jurors in Galveston County Court No. 2 found the company’s negligence caused Lewis’ back and knee injuries.

Axxis officials said they do not comment on litigation.
