Ford asks customers to choose sound of new electric Focus

Ford Motor Co. recently thought of a creative, ahem, vehicle for soliciting input from consumers about its 2012 Focus electric car.

The Dearborn, Mich. automaker asked fans on Facebook to rate their top pick among four proposed sound the car will make when traveling at low speeds.

Those who click on the site — and there have been hundreds so far – can visit four YouTube links, each with a unique noise, and then register their favorites.

The project stems from new federal regulation that will soon require hybrids and electric vehicles to be equipped with noisemakers that function when the vehicles are driving below 15 mph — and running on nearly-silent battery power. Advocates for the blind had pushed for the rules.

Obama please stop all of this coal crap we only want wind and solar sir. We can save it for the privileged like you and your lovely wife who hates Amerika or is for the first time in her life proud to be a Amerikan commie.

re-elect Obama for your commie treats!!

What about deaf and blind people?
Are you going to have to train the dogs to recognize the “new” sound of Fords?
What happens to Prius’ and Volts, will they have to have the same sound that Ford uses?
Sounds like a job for the NTSB not Ford. A universal sound is the only way to go.

I like the sound of a coke can on the back wheel of a bicycle giving it a slight fake motorcycle sound. Can they do that sound? I won’t buy it, but I’ll enjoy smiling every time I hear it.

How ’bout the sound of an electric arc. They could throw in the smell of ozone for the hearing impaired.

This is insane, it’s too quiet so we’ll put a noisemaker on it. Why not mandate a man on a horse ringing a bell and crying out, ‘look out for the car’ precede it down the frikkin’ street?

It’s obvious the only appropriate sound to use is the high-pitched puttering noise from “The Jetsons”
