Sandstorm in pictures

So just how bad was the sandstorm that diverted my plane on Friday? Here’s a picture a reader sent of the storm enveloping a gas rig near Dammam, in eastern Saudi Arabia.

This picture, also send by a reader, shows how strong the winds were. The sand came through the seams around closed windows. Even inside large buildings, sand seemed to be everywhere, literally hanging in the air hours after the storm had passed.
