A memorial 5,000 feet below

We noted earlier this week the final sealing of the Macondo well with a corrosion cap.

Now, thanks to Bit Tooth Energy, we have footage of the actual cap going in place.

The cap has 11 stars on the top, one for each of the rig workers killed in the April 20 blast aboard Transocean’s Deepwater Horizon.

On the side of the cap it says “In Memory of the Deepwater Horizon 11.”

The men who died in the explosion were:

Dale Burkeen, 37, Philadelphia, Miss.

Donald Clark, 49, Newellton, La.

Roy Wyatt Kemp, 27, Jonesville, La.

Jason Anderson, 35, Midfield, Texas

Stephen Curtis, Georgetown, La.

Gordon Jones, 28, Baton Rouge, La.

Karl Kleppinger, 38, Natchez, Miss.

Blair Manuel, 56, Gonzales, La.

Dewey Revette, 48, State Line, Miss.

Shane Roshto, 22, Liberty, Miss.

Adam Weise, 24, Yorktown, Texas

Here’s a link to an online memorial to the men, including photos from the May memorial service.

Esquire Magazine did one of the better profiles of the 11.

Where is the memorial for all those plants and animals who lost their lives, and habitat? Where is the memorial for the Gulf of Mexico that has been “killed” by BP in the name of greed? Where is the memorial for those who will be harmed by this spill for generations to come?

Rest in peace roughnecks! Your sacrifice will not go unacknowledged. May you find peace in heaven and may we forever honor you.

I assume GreenStar drives cars, heats the house, uses plastic bags, uses AC, enjoys all our conveniences and has the same goals and desires as most of us. Too bad ignorance is still so prevalent.

Tex – you show you ignorance in making your assumptions. I have been off grid for 3 years. Solar, Wind and used veggie oil are my energy. I drive an old 300D Benz that runs on waste veggie oil. I also use this oil in my generator. AC – Not needed when you build your house right. It’s your kind of narrow minded thinking that keeps us where we are and prevents us from moving towards true renewable energy. My goal three years ago was to live simply. You should try it, you’d have more time to spread your ignorance and intolerance.

Hey GreenStar…this is about the people that blew up during the explosion. Go spew your hatred for the people that provide the fuel for your Prius somewhere else. People like you make me sick. I like animals, and love the outdoors…and the money I spend every year for my hunting/fishing licence goes to pay for conservation projects…but for the love of PETA….Memorials are for the families, and anyone else that knew these lost souls. Why don’t you go get some wood, a hammer, some nails…and drive down the TX highways….and everytime you see an animal that has been run over…jump out and make a cross so that there can be a memorial for the animals. Or better yet…go do it in the ocean.

Greenstar..sorry…Prius was assumed, but just read about the Benz. I guess the tires, brake pads, hoses, seat belts are made out of wood?
