OTC: Make it snappy, we've got oil to find

In a presentation at the Offshore Technology Conference this week, Robert Ryan, Chevron’s chief of exploration and production, had a startling reminder about the global energy challenge.
In the upper right hand corner of his PowerPoint presentation Wednesday, he had a racing digital scoreboard, illustrating the world’s energy consumption is now a stunning 1,500 barrels of oil equivalent per second.
He said the industry will have to hustle to keep up with demand, which will only continue to rise, and suggested the conference is cutting into time the industry should be spending to find more resources.
Joking, he told the audience, “I hope you don’t take too long with your questions.”

Does anyone besides me realize we are totally screwed? There is no way on Gods (semi) green earth that we can keep up with accelerating global demand for energy of whatever flavor. Not happening. I’ll give us maybe another 3 years, then we’re toast.
