The chief economist for the Paris-based International Energy Agency is headlining a lengthy discussion of energy security at the Offshore Technology Conference today.
Fatih Birol will join Amy Myers Jaffe, an energy analyst with Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy and several other economists and researchers to talk about the growing role of biofuels and other non-fossil sources of energy and an increasingly global natural gas market.
The talk also will touch on the need to ease tension surrounding the wealth generated by oil and gas production in countries that control the reserves.
With oil having touched $120 a barrel for the first time ever on Monday before closing just 3 cents below that mark, energy security is a hot topic these days.
