The year opened with news that would become one of the biggest energy stories of the year. Shell’s highly anticipated Arctic drilling program suffered a major setback as the Kulluk drilling rig ran aground near an Alaska island on New Year’s Eve night amid fierce storms and high winds. The news ignited regulatory concerns, leading some companies to scale back their Arctic programs.
But 2013 brought a lot of good news to the oil and gas industry, as well.
